Day 1, Christchurch
On arrival in Christchurch, `The Garden City`, you will be met by our local representative and privately transferred to your hotel. Christchurch is the gateway to New Zealand`s South Island. You can ski, bungy jump, hike, mountain bike, raft, surf, swim, golf, see whales, dolphins and seals, visit wineries and gardens, shop, be entertained and awed, and so much more, all within 2 hours of Christchurch. Overnight in Christchurch.
Day 2, Dunedin
Today starts off by heading south across the Canterbury Plains to reach the Scottish influenced city of Dunedin, renowned for the local wildlife and Otago University. The afternoon is kept for sightseeing of Dunedin city. This city has it all from intriguing history with incredible attractions to rich heritage architecture, stunning views of the harbour, boutique fashion, decadent cuisine and NZ`s oldest university; it has quite a bit to offer. Overnight in Dunedin
Day 3, Queenstown
This morning is at your leisure. As the afternoon begins, you will travel to Queenstown and that begins with a train journey through the Taieri Gorge to Pukerangi (one of the World's great train trips into the rugged & spectacular Taieri gorge), from here you continue by coach following old gold-mining trails. In Queenstown, pick up your car for the next 4days. Overnight in Queenstown.
Day 4, Queenstown
Today, you drive and follow the southern arm of Lake Wakatipu to Lumsden, and onward to Lake Te Anau. Enter the Eglinton Valley and travel through the breath taking man made Homer Tunnel to reach Milford Sound. This journey to Milford Sound is a visual delight and an experience of a lifetime. It will touch your soul and enrich your senses as you reach the remote yet incredibly accessible locations. Enjoy a cruise on this world famous fiord, dominated by Mitre Peak and the cascading Bowen Falls. Cruise the idyllic waters of Milford Sound and admire the magnificent scenery up close. Catch views of dolphins, penguins and seals basking on rocks. Milford Sound is the most famous and accessible of the glacier carved fiords in Fiordland. Deep blue waters, cascading waterfalls, sheer cliffs, dense rain forest, towering mountains and fascinating wildlife; it`s all here waiting for you. The day ends with your journey back to Queenstown. Overnight in Queenstown.
Day 5, Queenstown
Today is for you to explore the endless optional attractions available at Queenstown. The town sits on the shore of crystal clear Lake Wakatipuamong dramatic ranges. The lake and mountain landscape make it suited to all kinds of adventure. There`s skiing in the winter and activities such as bungy jumping, sky diving, canyon swinging, jet boating, horse trekking and river rafting all year round. You can also indulge yourself with spa treatments, boutique shopping and excellent food and wine. Overnight in Queenstown.
Day 6, Glaciers Regions
Let your adrenalin flow as you travel along the shores of Lakes Wanaka and Hawea to the Haast Pass. Continue up the West Coast past spectacular mountain ranges, native forests and lakes to the glacier region of Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. It offers visitors a rare opportunity to experience a dynamic glacial environment, in a temperate environment, while being within easy driving and walking distance from the main highway. Overnight in Glacier Country.
Day 7, Christchurch
You can do (Optional) Glacier walk this morning. It may well turn out to be the walk of your lifetime. An awesome train journey awaits you this evening as you drive to Greymouth (to drop the vehicle) and board the TranzAlpine train to Christchurch. From Greymouth, the train travels east through lush alpine beech rain forests of the South Island`s west coast towards the Southern Alps, ascending through the Otira tunnel to the alpine village of Arthurs Pass - a base to explore Arthurs Pass National Park. From Arthurs Pass the train slowly descends through spectacular gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River, crossing the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch - known as the garden city and the South Island`s largest city. Overnight in Christchurch.
Day 8, Departure
Your arrangements conclude today with a departure transfer or the return of your rental car. After a bag full of wonderful memories and experience you are now set to head back home all refreshed and energized.
